The New York Times has revised its 2023 copyright lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, filing an amended complaint that now specifically accuses Microsoft of actively urging OpenAI to train its AI models using the Times’ articles and supplying services that facilitated the copying. The paper removed a previous allegation that OpenAI “secondarily” infringed by failing to stop users from generating copyrighted content with the AI. A Times spokesperson emphasized that, aside from streamlining the case and dropping that claim, the core allegations remain unchanged.
